On The Wild Rover this week Aidan McMahon will be featuring a vinyl recording made back in 1977 but not released until 1981. This very rare album is called The Gathering and it was put together by Diane Hamilton (1924 – 1991) who was something of a patron of Irish music in the 1970′s. The album features Paul Brady, Andy Irvine, Donal Lunny, Tommy Potts and Peter Browne. For those of you who are Planxty fans, this is a show not to be missed.
Diane Hamilton was also responsible for bringing together Liam Clancy and Tommy Makem on her first visit to Ireland in 1955 where she recorded one of the first collections of Irish folk singers in Ireland on an album called “The Lark in the Morning – Songs and Dances from the Irish Countryside”.
The show also includes music from Osna, Liam Clancy and Bakerswell.
